Caitlin is Six Months Old

That’s right folks, the little one is now a full half-year old now. We had her 6 month checkup today and she did outstanding. She’s growing like a week. 75th percentile for weight and height. She’s 17.2 pounds and about 26.25 inches long. Six months old and wearing 9 month clothes, much like Emelia at the same age.

Caitlin did well at the doctor’s office today. At her 4 month checkup there was a lot of crying and I spent most of the time holding and consoling her. This trip was very different. She was downright happy. She started to pucker up and get red when her head was being measured, but the nurse was quick I was fast to pick her up. Disaster avoided. While we waited for the doctor she rolled around and played with the butcher paper on the examination table. The doc even got her to smile a bit when he was examining her. The best part was that she got two shots today. The first one was in and out and she didn’t even flinch. The second shot was done and by the time she started to wind up for crying I was holding her. Two shots and no crying. The nurse was impressed. My two girls are tough and don’t cry easily when it comes to pain (remember that when Emelia had her stitches out that she was not restrained. She toughed it out.). Amazing girls.

As we did with Emelia, we are in the process of transitioning Caitlin to her own bed. She went from cradle to our bed and now that she is 6 months old, sleeps through the night and does not need night feedings we are moving her out into her own crib. Just like with Emelia there is a lot of crying involved. She’s stubborn, but not as bad as Emelia. Also, Caitlin is only six months old. We transitioned Emelia at one year old. They are very different when they are one. So far Caitlin is doing well with the transition. Once she’s tuckered out from crying she’ll sleep for hours. Let us hope that she stops the crying part before too long. It’ll make things easier for us all.

Emelia is doing well. She’s really taking to playing with water lately. Every bath she takes turns into a minor swimming event in the tub. She loves to lay down in the water and fly in the water (chest down, arms out). She’s even willing to take showers now. After the initial cleaning we let her turn on the shower and rinse herself off. She’s a quick learn and can easily work the shower and tub controls. In the shower she no longer gets bothered by all the water running on her. Two months ago she would have screamed and cried in the shower. If she gets more comfortable with water I see swimming lessons in her future. I want to bring her to the town pool to see how she does before I lay out the money for lessons at the Y. I think she’ll do well now that she is older.
