Spring Fever

There is something about spring that makes you just want to get outside and get some work done. At least that is how I feel. Life has been busy, but we’ve been able to get some stuff done. I’m in the process of tripling the size of the garden. Most of the brick has been buried and the grass (what grass there is) is being removed. Just need to mix in some good soil and moo doo (manure). The strawberries are starting to ripen and the chives are growing like weeds. I can’t wait for the veggies to be growing.
We already planted 10 egg plant plants, 6 cucumber plants, 2 squash (zucchini) and 8 pepper plants. The tomatoes, kohlrabi and cantaloupe have to wait until I’m done expanding the garden. Not to mention bok choy (our own from last year), scallion and Chinese celery seeds. They’re all sprouting nicely. As the weather warms up the rest of the seeds will be put down: Hyacinth beans, fuzzy squash, bitter melon, Chinese spinach, winter melon, loofa and some other things Sue bought. It’s going to be a busy gardening year.
The girls are both doing very well. Caitlin seems to be growing like a weed. She can easily hold her head and body up when on her tummy and likes to coo at anybody that talks to her. She really is easy going and less demanding than another little girl I know. She’s come a long way from the colicky baby that she was a couple months ago.
Emelia is doing very well too. She passed her evaluation this year with flying colors. She even did things that only older kids are expected to do. She has lots of energy and lots to talk about. It still amazes me how much she can say and how well she says it. Some of the things she says take me by surprised. She’s also singing and bouncing around the house a lot. One thing I’m really starting to like is that she’s starting to play more independently than before. Lastly, she’s really coming along with playing puzzles. She enjoys doing them and can just about complete a 25 piece puzzle without much help. Not bad for a two year old.
