Still Kicking

Despite my lack of posting we are still well and very healthy, just crazy busy. Today was Caitlin’s first day at daycare and Sue’s first day back at work. Everybody did well and look forward to another good day tomorrow.

We still haven’t heard any good news about work. The only interesting news I have to share is that if things don’t change by July 1st there is a good chance I’ll be out of a job; I’m still new enough to be one of the low men on the totem poll and a coworker already checked to see where we he lies. He started before me and he is within the range of the cuts. Great.

Emelia has moved into her big bed. Now more crib for our little girl. She now has a full size bed all to herself. The first couple of days I slept with her. That way she would be okay with the bed. Now, I’m dealing with the aftermath of that decision. She puts up a fight since she wants me to sleep with her, but once she’s done fussing she sleeps the night through and is happy as a clam in the morning. Regardless of the fighting she loves her new bed.

I took Thursday and Friday off to work around the house. Thursday was pretty much consumed with buying the mattress and rearranging furniture in the house as well as going to the doctor with Caitlin. Friday I got a chance to finish working on the tractor, generator and weed-whacker. All are tuned up and ready for the season.

I also spent some time in the attic preparing it for a nice thick layer of insulation. There were nooks and crannies (and holes) to seal and fill in preparation. After lunch on Saturday Mike helped me while I replaced all of the rafter vents in the attic. The ones that were there were about 24 inches long and I replaced them all with 48 inch long ones. That’ll give me enough room to fill in with insulation.

It was a nasty job and took a while to finish due to tight quarters and many staples, but it was fulfilling to complete. I still have a couple more things to finish and then it’s time to put the insulation in and seal things off. I’m hoping that my investment (both time and money) are paid off in warmer winters and cooler summers. Next up is finishing the sealing and insulating of the basement. There is a lot of prep work before I can insulate, so that will take longer to complete.

Saturday morning I took a few hours to rake the yard (again) and apply some fertilizer and new grass seed. It’s all in hope to revive the lawn back it what it was when we first moved in. I don’t know how things got so bad, but it’s time to fix it.

On Thursday Caitlin had her two month appointment and shots. She took them as well as can be expected. Just like Emelia she’s growing quickly and topping out in the 90th percentile for weight and length. She’s 12 pounds 6 ounces and 23.5 inches long.

Beyond Thursday everything is a blur. I’ll try to post some new pics and video of the kids. Between the house and kids it has been busy around here. I don’t expect it to stop.
