Weekend
I had a slightly more productive weekend than I’ve had in a while. If the kids don’t put us in the ground soon they are definitely taking years off our lives. Having two kids that both want/need your attention makes for little time to do anything. The joys of parenting.
The weather hasn’t been too cooperative so I haven’t had a chance to put down crab grass preventer yet, but I did get to do a little bit of yard cleanup. The town took what debris I left near the road (most of what was left over from the storm was already taken away or I took it to the transfer station myself). I had a few things left over to take care off. The yard is again looking cleaner and less wild.
I also got a chance to do some long awaited maintenance on the big machines in the house. The tractor got a good lube, oil, filter job as well as a new fuel filter. The generator got (what I think is it’s first) oil change and a new fuel filter as well. In a day or two I’ll finish them up with new plugs and replace a piece of fuel line on the generator that is all cracked and brittle.
I was going to do work on the snow blower too, but there seems to be little parts available now that spring has arrived. Not to mention that it looks like it’s going to require more work than just an oil change. The gear box is leaking. Two seasons and the thing still looks like brand new. The only problem is that the working part of it is leaking oil all over. I’ll have to see how handy I am and fix it up. I have plenty of time to work on it.
On the inside of the house it has been keeping up with normal chores as usual. In the very near future Emelia will be moving out of her crib and into a big girl bed. The bed is all put together using her first crib and a full-size bed conversion kit we bought. It looks great. We just need to wait for her bedding set to come in and to pick up a mattress. Then comes of the joy of moving her over. She’s game, but I doubt she’ll be a willing participant once we change things up.
This past week I had four days of training. It went well and I learned a lot of about secure Java programming. Friday I was planning on working a full day, but I ended up having to leave early to bring Emelia to the doctor. Daycare discovered some white sores in her mouth and wouldn’t let her stay until I had it checked out. It seems she got infected with Coxsachie virus and ended up home for the day. I went back in for 2 hours and then came home again. James is sick today (Sunday), but it isn’t clear if it is the same thing as what Emelia had. Emelia didn’t have any symptoms other than the sores. She was in high spirits and completely unaffected.
On that note, it’s past my bed time. I’m hitting the sheets.
