Merry Christmas, cont.

Continued from the last post. We last left off with our story at the time when we were at home opening presents. After we all opened our presents we prepared for our trip to Mass. The car was literally stuffed with clothes and presents, then we made our way out for a pretty uneventful trip in the car.

Not too long after arriving at grandma and grandpa’s house Emelia started opening presents; a lengthy process.

Daddy and Emelia

The little girl was especially adorable and with all the presents to open she was on good behavior.

Look daddy! More clothes!

Some nice copper plated cookie cutters for mom. (This is a rare photo where Sue is actually smiling.)

Smiling Sue

It would be an understatement to say that Emelia made out like a bandit. I can hardly recall everything that she got, but I know that she got books, lots of clothes, wipes, diapers, cream, movies, stuffed animals, bonds and gift certificates. She’s lucky that she is the only kid in her generation (for now). Next year she’ll have a younger sister to compete with, but that won’t mean too much until next year. Sue and I also got lots of presents. Mom and dad stocked me up with pants, shirts and ties for work. So, I’ll be well dressed for work.

After opening presents we got to catch up with the family. It was nice and laid back this year since the number of people opening presents was kept at a minimum. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to see great-grandma. It was also nice to see all the improvements to mom and dad’s house. It’s come a long way.

The car was re-stuffed for the trip back to NY.

Stuff car

It’s tough to believe you can cram so much stuff into the back of an Accord.

Every available inch was filled

After heading out to the road yet again we had an uneventful trip to Sue’s parent’s house. Emelia crashed very quickly after we left. When we reached our final destination for the day we met up with James and Amy. James was sick, but not so sick that he was not up to opening a present from Rie-rie and Uncle Dave.

James now has James the tank engine for his Thomas and Friends train collection. Needless to say that by this time of the day we were all tired and ready for bed.

One last thing to note. This was our first big trip in the new car and it was amazingly comfortable and quiet. Until you sit in an old, noisy (but reliable) Civic for 5 hours you never realize how nice a quite car ride can be. The Accord is very comfortable for long distance driving. Driving in snow with the OEM tires is another story; Accords come with great summer and spring tires. The tires are worthless in the snow.

in that pic where she’s holding up her new clothes Emelia reminds me of Shirly Temple in The Little Princess, just minus a few curls. she’s so cute!
