Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Maybe that title is a bit misleading, but I like it. Unfortunately, planes are not mentioned in this post past this sentence. Two weekends ago when I brought up the Christmas tree and lights from the basement I also brought up some of my old Matchbox cars that I played with as a kid. Emelia has shown interest in James’ cars so I thought bringing my cars out was a good idea.

Emelia had a great time playing with the cars and trains that I used to play with. They’re quite ragged looking; my old cars are looking very worn, but are in great mechanical shape. We ended up buying Emelia her very own set of cars for Christmas (don’t tell her). We’ll have to see how well they hold up against the oldies that I have.

James and Emelia both have a passion for trains. We’ve watched countless episodes of Thomas and Friends together and both of the kids can name the most well known tank engines. So, it comes as little surprise that both have a passion for my old trains.

The night I brought them out Amy and James came over for a visit. He had such a great time playing with them that we let him take all of them home with him for the night. From what I hear from Amy he stayed up very late playing with them. Much later than they wanted and much later than he has ever stayed up before. Each time she told him it was time for bed he said “Just a little bit more mommy.”

The kids don’t know it, but we are also getting them some Thomas trains and tracks for Christmas. They’ll both probably lose their minds once they open their presents. This is definitely what gift giving is all about. Watching kids open presents and find something they love is an amazing thing to watch and experience.
