Back to Normalcy

At just past 2pm this afternoon something clicked and a number of lights popped on in the living room. We finally got power to our part of the neighborhood. It only took 60 hours to restore power, but we’re all grateful. My hopes rose when I kept seeing utility trucks roaming the neighborhood. A few slowed down near our house and noted that we had a generator running. Not two minutes later I was tearing the wires from the generator and wrapping them up. One of the trucks stopped by and asked if we had power. I gave him the thumbs up and thanked him. He seemed pleased at seeing how happy I was.
Within 15 minutes I had everything in the house back to normal. The generator and wires are all put away and the furnace is hooked back into the main power box. Appliances are back on and clocks are set. Even the timer for the outside lights is back online. Now I just need to get myself back to normal.
Two long days spent in a cold house stoking a fire was just the beginning. Back and forth from very cold to warm and then too hot has taken its toll on me. Not to mention the lack of sleep and worry (I can’t help but worry). I only wonder how much CO was released from having the fire going for so long. I was a little concerned about going to sleep in case I didn’t wake up. Again, just more worry.
It’s all over for now. I sucked down some Advil and will take it easy the rest of the day. Then it’ll be back to putting the fridge back together (now is a great time to give it a thorough cleaning and doing laundry. The girls return tonight and the winter weather visits us again Tuesday through Wednesday. I hope that it’s just snow this time. It’s much easier to deal with.
