Little One

Last night our little one awoke at 2:30 or so with a warm head. She wasn’t sleeping well and it was clear that she was getting sick. Some Tylenol and her head cooled down and she was able to finish the rest of the night without problem. We tried our luck and packed her up for daycare, but she got sick on the way there. So, I have yet another day off from work courtesy of Emelia.
She’s always a bit whiny when sick and today is no different, but she’s full of energy and fun when she’s not crying. It’s obvious that being sick makes her unhappy, but otherwise her happy, energetic self shines through it all. Tonight will be the real test. I have my fingers crossed in hope that she is good enough to sleep the night through.
On to another topic. At 19 months old she still amazes me with how much she knows, can do and can say. Last night I was shocked to hear that she can say the names of each of the animals and characters in her books. Ariel, Elmo, Grover and various animal names are no problem for her. Amazing when you realize she is only 19 months old. She’s no alone in this either. Many of the other toddlers can speak very well for their age. I recall having a conversation with a little girl in that room last year and I know she was less than three years old.
“Please” and “thank you” come out of Emelia without any hint from us more often than I would expect. She has plenty of other phrases and words that she knows, but I’m at a loss to think of any right now. Must be the lack of coffee today.
Her ability to do things has improved a lot lately. One of her favorite activities is building things with her mega blocks (courtesy of Sarah). Every day she breaks them out and starts to build things. She likes to show you what she makes, then tears it all down to make another thing. She’s doing this right next to me as I type this post.
Another favorite activity of hers is drawing and coloring. I bought her a nice set of large crayons a couple weeks ago and she’s been coloring and scribbling like mad. She’s not much for coloring books, but a big piece of blank paper is all she needs. A notebook and a pen is good too, but she’s likely to start drawing on her skin if you don’t watch her, so we stick with the crayons for now.
Getting around the house and climbing things is another specialty. The other day she dragged a box over to the window, climbed up and stood there looking out the window. Climbing onto the red hassock only to launch her self “belly flop” style onto the couch is another scarier trick of hers. We try to stop this one immediately even though she’s quite good at it.
Our second baby is cooking along nicely. For a few weeks now Sue has been feeling the pains of carrying a baby around. Her tummy grew large very quickly this time; much faster this time than with Emelia. That’s caused her plenty of grief and plenty of pains in the back. I’ve been doing my best to take over the house hold chores, but it is tough.
Sue is also feeling the baby move around and kick her, which is exciting. I’ve looking forward to seeing the baby really move, but that won’t be for weeks now. \
That’s all for now. Back to playing with baby.

Ruh-roh, maybe Sue is cooking up another super baby in there… even bigger than Emelia…. Either that or it’s because this is round two so her body really knows what it’s doing this time.
