Scary Smart

A couple nights ago we were in Emelia’s room getting her ready for bed. Sue was lying down and Emelia kept grabbing her glasses, which is a no-no in our house. After two times I told her that if she doesn’t stop she’ll be put into timeout. Then I asked her if she wanted to go into the corner and sit in timeout. She replied, “Yeah.” So, I said, “Go then!” and pointed to the corner. Sure enough she walked over to the corner, sat down facing the wall and started to cry.
Sue and I just about lost it. She was cracking up with laughter and I was feeling especially guilty. I said it in half-seriousness and wasn’t really expecting her to do as I said. It is very scare how much our little 18 month old knows and understands when we speak. We certainly did not repeat ourselves and all I said wsa “Go then!” and she knew how to put herself into timeout.

that’s good though. she recognized that what she was doing was wrong and accepted that she should be punished for it. don’t feel guilty that you didn’t make it to three strikes before she was in the corner. not that you can help the guilty feelings….

wow! I wish we had that kind of cooperation a few years ago. She is just amazing sometimes.
