Washin’ Winders

Saturday was a amazingly productive day for me. I was able to take on and complete some of the chores that I was planning to work on. First up was cleaning the windows.
I’ve been dying to clean the second floor windows in our house since we moved in over two years ago. At first it was lack of an extension ladder that kept me from cleaning and then it was just being busy with more important things. With nothing better to do (ha!) and since we bought a ladder last year I was able to take care of business.
Last year I got pretty good with the window cleaning tools I bought. So, I started with the front windows above the porch. I’m not one for roofs, but this one isn’t too high so I got up and down with a bucket in hand without hesitation. 30 years of grime came off like a charm. I
made my way around the second floor and then the first floor in no time. Next up was hand washing the dirt off of each screen. Lastly, I hand washed each window sill. Again, years of collected grime came off. Very nasty, but well worth the effort. Sue actually suggested I do just the second floor, but the first floor windows collected plenty of dirt in the past year and taking care of them took little time.
While out on the ladder I saw numerous people walking around the neighborhood. One woman, who is our rain or shine running, stopped to tell me what a great job we’ve done with the place and keeping it up. That always feels great.
That being said I know for a fact that the neighbors saw me out side. And what strikes me funny is that the neighbor that lives behind us (the one that has a problem with me) had her daughter outside trying to clean the windows with Windex and paper towels. I thought that was great! The wackos are trying to keep up with the Johnsons. Too bad they should at least start with mowing their lawn and doing something with all the crap they have around their house. Washing windows is the least of their worries.
BTW if you plan to wash your windows invest in proper window washing tools:
- Window scrubber for cleaning off the crap
- Window squeegee for scraping off the water
- Window cleaning soap concentrate
- Any old rag for wiping off the squeegee and window frame
Doing windows with paper towels and Windex is a waste of time. You’ll never get all of the dirt off and you will not get a streak free window without repeated washings. One minute with scrubber and squeegee is all it takes to get a very clean window.
