Double Whammy

I usually don’t talk much about my work, but I feel compelled to say something. It’s been surreal the past week and the events of today have not made things any more comfortable.

Last week we got word that one of my coworkers had passed away. He had a heart attack over the weekend and was in ICU for a few days. He did not regain conciousness and passed away.

This hit me right in the chest seeing as the guy sat 10 feet away from me for eight hours a day. He was much older and wasn’t in great health, but it was still a shock. This was the first coworker that I’ve know that has passed away.

Today we received an email saying that somebody else had passed away. This guy was somebody else that I know, although, he worked in a different section. We worked together on a project and got to know each other well enough to hold a conversation, but that was all.

I’m downright shocked about this one. He was fit and very active, and unfortunately, I don’t know the circumstances of his death. I have to believe it was not health related.

Two deaths of people I work with in a week’s timespan. This is most shocking because it’s never happened anywhere I’ve worked. It’s also shocking since I knew and worked with each of them.

Updated (04/03/2008):
I just found out that the guy that died on April 1st (a cruel joke) committed suicide. He got in trouble at work and shot himself. It really is surreal. I can hardly believe that a guy I regularly ran into, worked with on projects, rode around in a car with, shot himself. Very sad. And over something small in comparison. It also seems I’m not the only one that knows somebody that has recently committed suicide.

    that is strange.

and good health does not necessarily mean that you can’t die young. a good friend of mine who is in his fifties lost his younger brother who ran several miles and worked out every day. there happened to be a history of heart issues that ran in the family and he had suffered a heart attack. you just never know what lies below the skin.

just in case though, stay away from the break room donuts…. ;)

I updated the post because I just found out that the second guy killed himself. It makes me sick to think about it.

Soooo sad about both deaths… very sad…. it hits even harder when you have daily contact with them…. It does make you go home and just hug your family>:d<
