A Long Week Ends

Today is the end of a long week. Sunday and Monday nights were not great. With a few good days under our belt we took a token step back and ended up with a crying baby on Sunday and Monday nights. Having been diagnosed with pink-eye in both of her eyes and both ears having an ear infection she wasn’t feeling all too great. She also wasn’t pleased with us trying to give her medicine. This has made for the start to a long week.
Tuesday night was okay at best. Wednesday night went well though. Sue put the little one to sleep without issue and without crying. We happily spent the evening not worrying about her. Emelia woke up once throughout the night and went back to sleep promptly and without a scene. Last night on the other hand was not a good night.
The antibiotic that she is on for her ear infection has been reeking havoc with her system. It’s causing loose stool and she’s going much more frequently. It’s made for a very uncomfortable situation. Despite our and the daycare’s best efforts her bottom is becoming raw. Keeping it clean and dry helps a little, but it’s very clear that she’s in pain. She was crying like crazy when I went to clean her yesterday afternoon. It was necessary to prevent further problems, but it was not comfortable for her.
Last night things got to the point where she was having a hard time sleeping because of it. We tried Tylenol without much hope, but she still was being bothered by the burn. Sue did her best to comfort Emelia, but I don’t think anybody got a good night of sleep. I called the doctor today and will be bringing her in for a followup. Maybe there is something they can do or provide to help her with her bottom. Or maybe we can switch to a different medicine or stop using this one early.
Something has to change. Hearing a baby cry because they don’t agree with something (like sleeping in her own crib) is one thing. Hearing a baby cry and shriek with pain is a whole other thing. Feeling helpless to take the pain away hurts most of all. So, we’re hoping that the doctor can help. The irritation seems more extreme that I expected.

what, are you on writer’s strike? or just not sleeping…?

Not on strike, just not sleeping much and not well. The time change has really taken its toll on me and Sue. Late to work on Monday and almost late again on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday are the only days that we actually got out of bed on time and it took plenty of effort.
