Confessor - Terry Goodkind

About two and a half years ago I started the Sword of Truth seres. Today, eleven books later I finished. When I started out reading Confessor by Terry Goodkind I didn’t realize it was the last book in the series. For some reason I thought there was one more book after this. Near the end it was all too clear that things were being finished up and that this was the end.

I won’t spoil the plot, but I will say that justice does get served and the book ends on a good note. Some characters die, others prevail. Characters from earlier in the books make an appearance. I think Goodkind did an okay job finishing up the series. I’m not really sure what could have been done to make it better.

Before I started the series I was told to prepare myself because Goodkind gets very preachy in this series. I admit that does happen and it is very apparent in Confessor, but if you love the story you can get by the “sermons” without any problem.

Now that Sword of Truth is over we’ll have to see how well Sanderson does finishing up Jordan’s Wheel of Time Series with A Memory of Light. The article mentions that Sanderson hasn’t had a chance to go through all of Jordan’s notes for the book and series. I can only imagine what they consist of. They must look more like an encyclopedia than notes. This book is supposed to come out in autumn 2009. I say take all the time you need. We expect that no corners will be cut and that Sanderson will at least try to write in the same style as Jordan.

i loved reading confessor because i love the story and the characters so much, but damn was it preachier than ever! and he just kept repeating himself over and over again. that got especially annoying because i was listening to the audio book and the dude just kept saying the same thing again and again. ugh! it was definitely super cheesy, as expected, but i still loved it.

i’m looking forward to the finishing of the wheel of time series. i still can’t believe that fucker died! ;) hehe. i just want it over and done with at this point. i started reading both of these series back in high school and i’m just finishing them now at 26/27 years old. lame.

I recall reading a couple parts of the book near the end where I think that the text was exactly the same. I didn’t go back and check, but it was like somebody pasted the same paragraph in two places.

I’m still stuck reading my Chinese language stuff when I get the chance, but I’m still reading some of the old fantasy stuff. I’m not sure why, but I like some of it. I only wish I had the time to read everything I want. Far too much stuff online to read in blogs and electronic docs and far too many books. I don’t think I’ll ever finish all the stuff I want to read before I die. There just isn’t enough time.
