Library Goodness

I spoke (wrote) that previous post too soon. One thing I would like to mention is how much I’m starting to like the library system around our area. The newer release DVDs, kid’s DVDs and huge sci-fi section are all great, but it seems that every week we discover something new that just solidifies out love of the local libraries.
I recently discovered that the libraries carry some “Learn Chinese” and learn pretty much any common language type materials. Pimsleaur and Instant Immersion are readily available. Not to mention English as a Second Language materials. Not bad IMHO. I grabbed a couple sets of these last night to take for a test drive.
On the way out of the library (we hit a different one last night) I discovered a huge amount of Chinese language movies, books and magazines. I was in shock. Our library has a single shelf of books. Here was 5 racks worth of material. I scanned through it, but seeing as my reading capabilities are limited I didn’t really know what I was looking at. I did recognize the Chinese language pregnancy magazines. I bet Sue would have loved those a year and half ago. I did my best of choosing and selected what looked like a kung fu movie. Sure enough when I got home and showed Sue and Amy they both were in shock. I ended up choosing a movie that they almost paid to rent the day before. Amy asked how much I paid. I smiled and replied that I didn’t pay a dime. If I’m not mistaken the name of the movie I rented is is 天龙八部.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that I checked out 下 instead of 上. That didn’t seem to stop the girls. They pulled the video cd they were watching and pushed in one of the 20 I brought home. To hell with what they rented they wanted the one I borrowed. Too bad we have to wait for 上 to be checked back in in a couple weeks. I can’t wait to bring Sue to this library. I think she’ll have a good time just going through the movie selection. Some of them are from CCTV, but they look more like documentaries than movies. She should be able to tell though.
