Staying Home

The little one seems to have contracted herself a stomach bug. I got a call yesterday afternoon form day care notifying me that Emelia is really not behaving like herself. She’s looking very mopey and lethargic. Ten minutes later I get a call to tell me that she vomited and that was probably the cause of her lethargy. So, I brought her home early. Things seem to be getting better now, but yesterday Emelia was completely out of it.

She went to sleep at 2pm Tuesday and as of 6am Wednesday she’s still asleep. She’s only awake for eating, changing and when we wake her up. She is exhausted, but she’s a little more lively now when I woke her up than anytime yesterday. Pedialyte, mommy milk and lots and lots of sleep seem to be doing the trick. Not to mention a little Tylenol to ward off a minor fever that was starting last night.

Except for last night sleeping in bed she’s been sleeping in our arms. I feel bad because she looks so desperate and confused when getting sick. She’s never had that experience before and it wasn’t pleasurable in the least. Feeling like crap all she wanted was somebody to hold her. Even daycare had her sleeping in somebody’s arms. At least with her sleeping she doesn’t move around or squirm a lot. She also wasn’t easy to wake up so moving around wasn’t a problem.

Even though she is doing better it’ll be daddy and little girl home today. I want to make sure she gets the attention and care she needs when sick. I have nothing against daycare and they would probably take her even if she is not herself, but Emelia is only one of four babies and I can’t expect the daycare to give her the one on one attention that she needs. Hopefully, she’ll get better today.

On top of all this she wasn’t feeling herself over the weekend. My boss told me that is a sign of something to come. Each time she’s fussy or lethargic something is in the works. That held true this time. Over the weekend she was happy and playful, but really just wanted to be held. It wasn’t apparent why. Then on Sunday and Monday her teeth were hurting. The second top tooth (the third one so far) already popped out, but he forth one (second bottom one) seems to be on its way out. So, feeling bad plus pain from teething has made things just a little worse.

None of this should last too long so Emelia should be herself soon enough.
