It’s Croup

Sure enough I brought the little one to the pediatrician and she has a mild case of croup. The wheezing that day care heard was probably due to her being stuffy or just breathing oddly at the time (she likes to make funny noises just for fun). Both the nurse and pediatrician didn’t hear anything in her lungs, which is great news.

I ended up leaving work early to bring her to the doctor’s office, but Sue will watch her Friday as daycare does not want Emelia there to infect others. I think she picked it up at daycare, but that is besides the point. So far her symptoms have been pretty mild. They’ll be at their worst at night and in the morning, but not too bad during the day.

She coughs a bit and has a little bit of a runny nose, but otherwise is in a great mood. When we came home from the doctor’s we drank a little formula and hit the sack. Both baby and daddy needed a nap. Both of us felt great afterwards. Sue rang the door bell when she got home, but we were so out of it we didn’t even know she did it.

When I went to write this the power went out for absolutely no reason. There are no storms or anything that I know of going on. Then…nothing. Just sitting here on the chair in my pitch black living room. I couldn’t remember where the flash light was, but I knew it was close by since we used it last night while trick-or-treating. Thankfully, we keep a candle (smelly) and lighter on the entertainment center amongst some other crap. I was able to find it and get some light and my bearings. The living room floor is a mine field of toys; not something you want to cross in the dark.

Not 20 minutes later it’s back on. The power company has nothing to say other than there was an outage. I’d like to think that my reporting the problem got them to fix it so quickly, but that might just be hopeful thinking. This all comes after finding out that the power socket in the bathroom for the washer has crapped out. The washer wouldn’t start and resetting all breakers did nothing to get power to the socket. So, we ended up having to finish the laundry by running a heavy duty extension cord from the basement (a nice dedicated 20amp line down there) to the washer.

The sound of a croup cough is even worse. Thankfully, she’s not that bad. The cough has changed over to a normal hacking sound.
