Baby Sounds

Lately Emelia has been making many new sounds. Her current favorite is to close her mouth with her lips open and then blow out air around the sides of her tongue. It sounds quite odd, especially with a mouth full of spit, but she loves it. At least it is quieter than the previous bouts of screeching and yelling.

She’s also starting to make much more distinct sounds. She’ll make noise while opening and closing her mouth, almost as if talking. I’ve been doing my best to get her to mimic me, which she does when she feels like it. I can get her to say Ayi and Da-da as well as A-Da-Da, but I know she has no idea what she is really saying. Some day she will.

What’s funny about her “talking” is that sometimes she’ll just talk non-stop for what seems to be no obvious reason. I’ve also caught her talking to inanimate objects like the kitchen faucet. I happen to turn it on at Sue’s parent’s house to test the new hot water and she sat in my arms babbling at the water. She must have been telling me to turn it off.

Having not spent much time together last week Emelia was more of a mommy’s girl that a daddy’s. I wasn’t able to hold her much on Friday since all she wanted was mommy or Ayi. After a weekend of being together she’s warmed up to me again. I guess they have short term memories when they’re that young or maybe she was punishing me for not being around. Who knows.
