Half-Year Old
Last week little Emelia passed the half-year mark; she’s now officially 6 months old! What a big difference 6 months makes too. She went from newborn to size 3 diapers. She’s gone from eating throughout the day and night to eating throughout the day night
. From newborn clothes that fit loosely to 12 month infant clothes.
Today we made our way to the doctor for her 6 month checkup, shots and weight check. She did excellent as usual. First up was weighing and measuring. Emelia broke in the 20 pound range. 20 pounds 6.4 ounces and 26.75 inches long! That puts her into the 95th percentile for weight (she’s back on the chart) and about 85th percentile for height. All I know for sure is that she is heavy and tall.
Xuemei gets bored very easily and needs a lot of entertainment. Playing on her own only lasts for a little while. One thing she seems to enjoy is playing with daddy (me) on the bed while listening to music / singing. This only seems to work in one bedroom where the bed has a silk comforter and the a stereo.
I forgot to mention that for some reason she is getting A LOT of compliments lately from many people. When I brought her to the picnic last week she was the star of the show; she danced around and smiled to everybody. She was not the least bit shy and even put up with being held by two new people and mommy wasn’t even around to “protect” her. Everybody that was near said that she was so cute and adorable. Some mentioned that she’ll be a dancer. Just about everybody that spoke to me was somebody I didn’t know so I assume the compliments were genuine.
A couple weeks ago we went to Sue’s coworker’s house for dinner. Everybody there thought she was adorable too. A couple even asked if she was a doll since she was sleeping so peacefully and looked too perfect to be real.
During the wedding reception many people came up to me and Sue just to say how cute the baby was. Again, every one of them was a stranger to me. Even the people that were working or eating at the nearby restaurant stopped by to compliment her.
Then to top it all off today at the doctor’s office the people that checked us in went on and on about her. This is a lot more attention that we were getting before when she was a bit smaller. I hope she stays cute as she gets older.
I find that most babies that are really adorable turn into not so good looking adults and some strange looking babies (not all of them by any means) turn out to be pretty good looking adults. It has me a little curious, but not worried that Emelia will stay cute. We’ll just have to wait and see. For now we’ll just sit back and enjoy the compliments. It feels great to hear that your baby is cute, especially from people you don’t know since they go out of their way to say it.

I may be biased but she is a cute little girl. The smiles she gives makes her adorable. The sounds she makes make her a joy to be with. I’ll bet that as she grows this will not change. She will continue to be a special little girl to all she comes in contact with. For a child this young to be so happy only means one thing, she will always be a special and adorable little girl. I would bet it comes from having very special parents that show her lots of love and attention. Biased or not she is and will remain special to all of us.
Dad.

actually, part of the change that you’re seeing in her and others’ reactions to her has to do with the stage of personality development that she’s in, I believe. she’s becoming her own person and it’s a very attractive one. as mentioned above, her personality will be reflective of the way that you are with her and the love and attention she is shown. she’s obviously reflecting happiness. good job mom and pops!

I’m obviously biased myself. I usually keep my thoughts to myself, but you cannot help but compare your kids to the others that you see.
She certainly is a happy one. I forgot to mention that she gets as many “She’s such a happy baby!” comments as she does any other. Always smiling and always happy.
The only times she’s not smiling is when she’s really bored or not feeling well.
I also forgot to mention that she did really well after her shots yesterday. She cried when it was happening, but stopped very quickly afterwards. Some kids go on a on. Mom just picked her up and she stopped.
