Summer Foods

I think I mentioned it once before, but I love summer for foods. Fresh veggies and fruit. And grilling. Yum! Last week we had guests and I grilled up some chicken and corn on the cob. It came out pretty good, although, the corn was a big stickier grilled than boiled.

Last night I cooked up a quick summer dinner. A couple ears of corn, boiled. Bushes Vegetarian (?) baked beans. Small, hot dog size Polish kielbasa and some locally made Bratwursts, all on Barowsky’s Organic Whole Wheat hot dog buns. Yumm-y!

I tried the Brats on a whim. I’ve always wanted to try them and I’m glad I did. These were made locally. They are kind of funny looking being milky colored, but the flavor was great. Popped onto my favorite brand of bread and with no toppings they were great. I ate two last night and one for lunch today. The milky color comes from the milk that is mixed in. Unfortunately, that kept Sue from trying one, but that did leave more for me. The downside is that they are a little more than kielbasa, which are more common and easier to find.

The kielbasa came our great as well. I’ll never go back to hot dogs after eating these things. I believe these are Hillshire Farms, but I have tried others, which were far worse tasting. I’m disappointed to say that the Johnsonville kielbasa was awful. They looked good, but they cooked up horribly and were very salty.

And with our heart-attack provoking meat filled tubes we had some vegetarian baked beans. Not bad, but the only reason they are vegetarian is because they don’t have a big chunk of pork belly (bacon) mixed in.

Ummm, summer food.

i will make no comments on your choice of meats….

i find that the vegetarian beans are not only missing the chunk of flesh, but are also a tad bit sweeter. not sure why though. eh.

I thought the beans were sweet too, but I figured it was me; I haven’t had bake beans in a while.
