Punkintown Fair 2007

Tonight we made our annual trip to the Punkintown Fair. This is our third so far. We always seem to end up there each year. It’s a small fair for a local fire department. It reminds me of growing up and going to the firemen’s fair with my parents, only this is a much smaller scale event.

We ended up going a little later than usual, but it ended up working out great since we usually spend about 2 hours there. If we were into games and if the kids were bigger we would probably stay longer. This year Mike’s mom Pat joined us. She came up this week to see James since he came down with another cold/sickness. Ah, it’s good to be retired. You can do anything you want when you get the urge.

We had a long walk from the car to the fair. Here is Amy holding Emelia while I get our gear in order and the camera warmed up.

First stop after buying ride tickets was the bear ride. It was warm up for James. He only woke up from a nap 20 minutes earlier so he wasn’t really into it yet. James really wanted his mommy to go, but she doesn’t do rides. Grandma offered to take him, but he still said no. So, I told him I would go with him and he was okay with that. So, all three of us went for the price of one. The guy didn’t charge us since we were only there for James. Nice guy.

I don’t think we could have gotten a better picture if we tried. Only now that I look at it closely it almost looks like Mike’s mom is getting ready to goose me. :)

After the first ride it was apparent that James wasn’t ready for this just yet. So, like all good fair goers we made our way to the food. A pizza, some clam chowder and orange soda were in order. We stopped by the baked goods booth, but they already sold out. Maybe next year we’ll remember to go there first. They make great little breads.

Next up was the slide. Mike took him on this one. Unfortunately, I thought I took a good picture or video of it, but apparently not. So, this is all I have. Oh well.

Emelia just soaked it all in. Stimulation was all around her. For a 5 month old baby she did surprisingly well. Lucky for us it was warm and sticky, but not sunny. We went late evening.

James went in the bouncy room again this year, although, he didn’t seem to enjoy as much. He seemed to get a bit shy and stuck near the side where we were the whole time. I think that if we were not there he would have loosened up (like at daycare), but that wasn’t going to happen. Not to mention all the other kids were really jumping around a lot. One girl knocked it right over. He crawled out before his time was up.

The night sky was nice set against the mountains.

The next ride was only one we went on last year. I’m not sure what it is named, but you basically just sit in the gondola, move around in a circle, up and down. Very basic, but plenty exciting for a 2.5 year old. I got him to put his arms up in the air and make some noise on the way down. Each round we waved and said hi to somebody (mom, Dad, Ayi, Grandma).

Last, but not least was another run down the slide with dad.

After this we were ready to go. Our little girl was starting to get fussy. Almost two hours straight without fussing. Her problem is that she only has a short attention span. Two hours of noise was enough for her. She was hungry and tired as well. I tried feeding her a bottle, but she didn’t want it. Mom was there so she wanted the real thing. She fell asleep on the way home. Mom and dad are tired too, only dad is staying up late to post this. Dummy. Time for bed.
