Signs gone from slain trooper’s memorial

It is pretty sad and amazing that somebody has the balls enough to steal signs dedicating a road to a slain police officer the night before the dedication ceremony.

About 100 people showed up Saturday to dedicate a portion of a Chautauqua County road to the memory of slain State Trooper Joseph A. Longobardo, but when they arrived, they found the two large signs marking the road as a memorial had been stolen.

What is even sadder is that there are people that support the actions of a convicted criminal responsible for wounding and killing officers trying to capture him after his escape and run from police. Granted he was able to escape jail and evade police for many weeks, but since when does this make a man a martyr.

Several people at the dedication — including Chautauqua County Legislator Robert Duff — said they believe supporters of Phillips were responsible for the missing signs.
