House Work

Just like Jess we always seem to be busy working on the house. We aren’t gutting any rooms, but there definitely no shortage of stuff to do around our house. The funny thing is that there is so much to do and you work so much and yet it seems like nothing ever gets done.

Last Tuesday when Mike and Amy were over I spent some time cleaning the windows. There must have been 30 years of grime on these things. I bought some tools from HD (scrubber, cleaner and squeegee) and was ready to go. Although I wasn’t able to clean all of the windows I was able to get all of the ones on the first floor cleaned. What a mess. Some of the windows seemed to have actual mud on them.

The tools worked our great. Every window on the first floor including the inside and outside of all the garage windows and doors got a cleaning. Inside of the house windows got a dose of Windex instead. The screens will have to wait for their cleaning. Not to mention the second story windows. They’ll take more effort and more dexterity, but they will get done sooner or later. If you are thinking of doing your windows it’s well worth the effort and do yourself a favor by investing in a good squeegee. That seems to be one of the key tools to very clean wind’ers.

Last night I got to work on Sue’s car. Out came the new headlight and off came the grill and part of the front bumper. With emery cloth and paint in hand I fixed up the recently bent back fender. It was starting to rust and plenty of paint had chipped off so I spent a lot of time prepping. Actually painting too little time.

The end result is pretty good. The silver of the new paint is a little darker and there is a distinctive line where I stopped painting, but we knew before I started. I’m just happy it came out as nice as it did. From a distance it is tough to even tell it was painted.

Next up is the hood. I was toying around with the idea of painting the whole thing, but figure it best to just paint the corner that was bent up. I doubt that Rustoleum will hold up again the engine heat and glaring sun. Not that the current paint is doing well, but it does keep it from rusting.

When I’m all done I’ll post some before and after pics. It’s the least I can do to show off. I still have to get the other headlight. Now that I’m confident I can replace it I have no problem buying it. I was a little apprehensive before.

So, that’s two unfinished projects to add to the list. Some day I’ll just have to take the time to finish something. Finish the basement walls (painting). Finish the basement lights. Finish the garage. Finish the front porch. Finish taking out stumps. Finish taking out the concrete footings for the roof I took down. Finish trimming the trees. Finish Sue’s closet. Finish the rest of the closets. Plenty to do and no time. The joys of owning a home.
