Closure

We’re finally (and I say that with a sign of relief) coming to a close on Sue’s car situation. We settled on a figure and percentage of liability for each party and they are acceptable. Even though the car was “totaled” we had the option to get it back and adding up the figures it made sense to do so. The only remaining item is getting reimbursed for our rental. We’ll take care of that over the weekend.

That being said I’ve never, ever had to deal with a company that had such poor customer service. It’s been 6 weeks. How did that happen? They royally screwed up the name on the claim even though Sue spelled it out for them. They didn’t return phone calls. When they did call, they called home even though I gave them Sue’s number at work for daytime. Setting up the appraisal was like pulling teeth. Even this last bit took two weeks. How long does it really take to figure out how much liability each person has in an accident? Phew. Over with.

Sue’s dad is busy trying to fix the body and hood enough so that it doesn’t look so horrible. The hood is now functional and the headlight is at the salvage yard waiting for me to pick it up (after work today). So, cross your fingers and hope we can get this thing all knitted up and working properly this weekend and we may actually be able to drive the damn thing home. Mom can then have her doggy mover back.

That still leaves the issue of getting a new car. We were planning to replace Sue’s car early next year and it looks like that is still going to be our plan. Of course time and rot could change that in no time, but next year is better for us. Despite the recent damage Sue’s car is still in great shape and still gets great gas. Years of good upkeep has paid off. The car shopping wasn’t for naught. Next year when we are out shopping it won’t take long to find the one we want. We already know.
