Off the Chart
Little Emelia is officially “off the chart” for weight. She is 17lbs 6.4oz and 25.25 inches long. Off the chart for weight, but 75th percentile for height/length. We asked about starting her on rice cereal and the doc suggested we hold off until 6 months old. Current thinking is that babies don’t need to start cereal until they’re 6 months old and our baby girl doesn’t need any extra calories; she’s clearly getting everything she needs from mommy.
What does this mean? It means sore arms and tired parents. Ever try holding a 17.5lb baby for a while? How about holding one while they try to stand or jump up and down. Makes your arms go sore and tired from the work.
What else it means is that she’ll probably start slowing down soon. The doc mentioned during the last physical that she’ll probably slow down by month 9. That is a long ways away, but it is a light at the end of the tunnel. 4 months zipped by. I’m sure the next 5 will go just as fast. We are trying to enjoy her and spend as much quality time as we can.
I’ve started to read to her when I can. If she is in a good mood and willing to sit I pop her onto my leg and hold a book in front of us. She listens, but probably spends more time just looking at the book. I usually pick something with various colors so it is at least something decent to look at. I’m hoping that Sue can read some Chinese books to her. My Mandarin is far too rough to be of any use to Emelia.
And since I’m behind on my posts yet again, here are some of the latest videos. Three of these were taken just today.
Emelia mimicking daddy. It is too bad I didn’t get her really making the sound loudly. Just before I turned on the camera she was really making some noise.

Emelia just being a silly, squeaky girl. This was taken just before we were going out the door for daycare and work.

Mommy getting Emelia to giggle. This is the first video I’ve ever gotten of her giggling. Plenty of squeaks, but no giggles. I hope to get video of her laughing. It is infectious watching it. You can’t help but smile along.

Round two of giggles. This one got cut short due to a dying battery, but it is still good. I was trying my best not to laugh, but you’ll end up hearing my breathy attempts at not laughing along with Emelia.

What the heck has mom got in those things that’s making her grow like that? Good job.
You’re right, that laugh is infectous. I was totally grinning like a fool here at my computer.

She’s making gold level breast milk. Either that or Emelia is very efficient at putting the milk to work. Maybe both.
