Memorial Day

It’s been a long weekend. We planned to stay home and do things around the house, but we got word on Friday that Jason was very sick (feeling ice cold even though it was in the 80′s, etc). So, we went to visit him and help out where we could. It was last moment stuff so we were not ready for traveling. So, we got there late Friday.

Since we are driving mom’s SUV until Sue gets her car back or a new car we decided to take advantage of the space and car pool with Amy. Three adults and two babies fit well in it. Although, the third adult in the second row had a tight ride, but it wasn’t too bad.

We also took advantage of the DVD player. The plan was to pop in Happy Feet so that James would be occupied leaving Amy to tend to Emelia. Well, it turned out both of them needed tending to during the ride. So, just imagine a crying Emelia, a whining mes, Happy Feet coming through all the speakers and Shaun trying to drive. Needless to say I had a headache by the time we reached Sue’s parent’s house.

The weekend was pretty subdued. I went to visit grandma and grandpa with Emelia. Sue put in some hours working for Jason. We ran our normal errands such as grocery shopping. I finally got my hair cut. It was two weeks overdue. Very early Sunday morning we made a trip to Lowes. Her dad had a 10% coupon and wanted to use it Sunday.

We were not planning to go and gave Jason a list of the stuff we needed last week. Since we were there in person we went. So, to keep the driving to a minimum and sleeping to a maximum I was allowed to sleep over Saturday night. I spent the entire night with Meimei, while Sue took the couch. Other than a few nighttime feedings she did well.

Sunday we went on a shopping spree. A ladder for her dad (24′) and a longer ladder for us (28′). A toilet for Amy and a fridge for dad. Miscellaneous cans of paint and sealant. Not bad. Believe it or not the best vehicle for transporting ladders is not a van, but a ’93 civic sedan. Fold the seats down and let the thing hang out the back. It worked very well.

Sunday afternoon we made our way back home. This time Sue in the back with the kids and the very back of the SUV absolutely stuffed. We came down pretty full, but went back filled to the top (of the seat). The toilet and food we bought came home with us. The kids did better this time. Emelia slept soundly and James watched his movie while Sue pretended to sleep.

Monday was our day. We both had plans, but since the baby needed to be played with only one got to do their stuff. I spent most of the day with Emelia (until Amy got there). Sue cleaned the house, baked blueberry muffins and soda bread (Jess’ recipe), and arranged for a small BBQ dinner. I cooked up the burgers and kielbasa.

The day went pretty well although I was not at my best. I slept like crap on Sunday night. I don’t know why, but I was exhausted by the morning. Shortly after getting up I started to do laundry. That was a mistake. I took a tumble down the stairs with the laundry basket in my hands. Twisted my ankle and landed on my side. My side is fine, but my ankle still hurts. I don’t think it is sprained, but it certainly was twisted.

Luckily enough for me I was able to get some good sleep last night. I woke up a few times when Emelia was kicking me and/or hitting me with her head (she shakes her head side to side looking for a boob when she is asleep, but hungry). By 5am I was up and awake. So far so good. The ankle feels a little better today and we were ready to leave for work on time without rushing.

Wow busy weekend for ya. I’m glad the DVD came in handy for the trip. The headphones are in the back with the spare if he would wear them. This would free you up to listen to music. Also I think they can be used for the radio somehow, I am not sure how though.
    Dad.

ouch on the tumble and ankle bit, that sucks! glad to hear it didn’t do too much damage to you though. sounds like a busy weekend…it’s always fun stuff helping out family. ;) our weekend was full of that too. 8)

@dad: I remembered that there were headphones, but I didn’t want to go digging around for them. I figured if they were in the car I’d be able to find them easily. If we do carpool again I think I may give them a shot. At least that would eliminate one source of noise.

@sarah: Thankfully my ankle is healing well. It feels much, much better now than it did yesterday. So, I consider myself lucky.

It was nice that Jess kept up with updates to her blog with all your progress. Looks like y’all had a good time. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
