Small Successes

Every so often things go okay. Yesterday and today Sue and I were both surprised to find that Emelia would sleep in her crib. She’s already outgrown the cradle (way too active for any surface that moves), moved into our bed for night time sleeping (she sleeps, we get a bit less sleep than we want) and now we’re trying to get her more accustomed to the crib. She’ll have no choice but to sleep in one once she gets to daycare, so we’re getting her ready now. So far two naps about 50 minutes each. She falls asleep watching the mobile and is out for the entire time.

Next up is getting her to take a bottle. We spent 45 minutes the other night (give bottle, screaming match, sleepy and teary noises, calm, repeat) trying to get her to take it. No luck with it again today. This weekend I have to try a little harder. Otherwise, she will be forced to take a bottle by daycare. Basically it comes down to she’ll have no choice, but eat from the bottle if she is hungry. Period. She is a strong willed girl though with little patience. Bring out the ear plugs!

Walking around with the baby in the carrier is still possible. She usually falls asleep and enjoys the warm, bouncy walk outdoors. Stop and stand around too long and she wakes up. And she is usually hungry when she wakes up, which leads to cries of hunger.

Another small success occurred this morning. I walked out to the garage to find that Sue’s car door was wide open. My truck was dropped off at the dealer last night for a new pair of brakes. The only thought I had was that I wasn’t going to get the car started and that I didn’t have another vehicle to use. Thankfully, the car started. 10 hours with the dome light on and it cranked over just fine. Phew. We got lucky.

With all this warm weather I’m going to trade my previously planned weekend of working in the basement for working outside. Nothing gets you into the mood for doing lawn work like warm weather and sunny skies. The basement can wait until the night time. For now I have a date with a rake and a stack of paper lawn bags.
