Rolling Papers

From Fons Tuinstra:

Heavy smoking makes bibles too expensive

Chinese men are smoking more heavily and that has made the bibles worldwide more expensive, I read in a rather Christian newspaper from the Netherlands. For cigarettes the same kind of paper is being used as for printing the bibles and this smoking habit is not only killing the smokers, but also the sales of bibles.

The German Bible Association has complained about this in the German weekly Der Spiegel. Sales of the bible in Europe are declining, but it is unsure whether only the price is an issue here.

So, if I read that correctly good ole bible thumpers are never without a hefty stash of rolling papers. All you smokers out there should keep that in mind.

but it couldn’t be that bible sales are down because our society tends to not be as religious as it once was, and gets less so with every passing year, right? wtf….

I think the reason you see interest in religion decreasing is because people are not seeing as necessary anymore.

I believe that many people use religion as a scapegoat. i.e. God is somebody to blame things on. Blame Him for the unexplainable (at least until somebody figures it out) and blame him for the bad things that happen.

As science highlights the cause/effect of different things and information becomes more widely available people no longer need a figure to use as an excuse.

BTW the bible is the number one most stolen book ever. Makes you wonder.

When I was in middle school in rock-starved Huntsville, Alabama, a story floated around school. A bunch of kids had gotten their parents to take them to a Stryper concert. Stryper was some kind of Christian heavy metal band. According to the story, the band had tossed little copies of the New Testament to the crowd who then proceeded to rip pages out to roll joints with. I didn’t see this, mind you. But I remember being so shocked when I heard the story.

Sounds rebellious enough for a metal band, but for a Christian band? I guess some people just don’t care.

I’m not religious myself, but I have enough decency not to disrespect others for their religion.
