Downright cold

Today it really feels like winter. I knew it was going to be cold last night. The forecast said that it would drop down to 1°F. Well, it did that and a little more. By the time I got to work and checked the temp it was -3°F with a windchill of -16°F. I can only imagine how cold it got last night. We were all toasty inside though. The house stays consistently warm regardless of how cold it is outside. It is supposed to warm up though to around 15°F today. Yeah!

It is ironic that on days like today where it it is still only 4°F outside it’s nearing 80°F inside our building. I wore a sweater and undershirt to combat the cold. Yet I sit at my desk with my fan turned on.

yeah our pellet stove has been blazing away with it being so cold. in fact, the stove ran out of pellets around 5 this morning, and by the time we got up at 6.30 the temp in the house was already down in the mid-fifites. it took a couple hours of blasting to get it back up around 68.

Now that you mention it I totally forgot about firing up the fireplace. Either that or I can claim I’m smart.
The thing about the fireplace is that you want to use it in the evening, but it takes a long time for the coals to cool. So, you have to leave the damper open. i.e. Leave a gaping hole to the outside, very cold world open. Otherwise, you get a house with smoke or very smokey smelling air. Most likely it’s because I forgot.
