Native-American, 6′, 240 lbs., 43 years old. Originally wanted for shooting a state trooper and for escaping jail. He’s now escalated to shooting two other troopers, one of which just died in the hospital.
Armed and Dangerous, now thought of as a “Folk Hero” for sticking it to the “man”. This guy is a career criminal. From a young age he has been getting into trouble by stealing cars and the such.
He escapes jail, albeit cleverly, using a can opener mere days before he is to be let out legitimately. He runs to the woods in western New York to play cat and mouse with troopers.
It sounds like a movie or a story. Local restaurants sells “Bucky Burgers” in honor of this criminal. People are seen wearing T-shirts with the phrase “Run Bucky!” blazoned on the front. A handful of people have even been caught harboring this guy in their home with their kids.
I can understand his playing with police. He is on a power trip. What does he have to lose? Maximum, he gets life in jail, no matter how many people he hurts or kills. The thing I don’t understand is the local’s view of him. How can they see this guy as a folk hero? He is a criminal. He robs stores and steals cars. He’s shooting people.
I hope that they catch this guy soon. New York State Police, PA State Police, US Marshals and various other agencies are on the search for him. Bucky has already said he won’t be taken alive. He’ll likely die using “suicide by cop“. Either way we’re all better off without him on the loose.
Updated
I just finished reading the latest news and it looks like the “Bucky Burger” is no longer on the menu at Grandma’s Family Kitchen in Cassadaga. I also read an article that said residents of Cassadaga, where Bucky is from, are not in support of him. His support is coming from a small group of his relatives and friends. That small group is making things look bad for the residents of Cassadaga. I stand corrected.
