Passing On

For those of you that don’t know Sue’s grandmother passed away last week at the age of 97. For those who knew and sent us cards thanks. We all knew it was coming and have (as always) done everything we could to make her comfortable.
After all of the activity and work to get everything arranged it was decided that her remains would go to a memorial terrace (mausoleum like structure) at Chuang Yen Monastery. We went to visit the Monastery last Sunday. It’s a pretty amazing looking place. I posted all of my pictures here.
The main pathway from the parking lot to the Great Buddha Hall:

Sue, Mom and Amy:

The Thousand Lotus Memorial Terrace, named for each Lotus flower on each plaque:

Something pretty cool happened when we were walking around the memorial terrace. A deer walked out of the woods right next to us and stood there eating from a small bush. It stayed there for a while even though we were there. When we walked within 10 feet of it, it did get a little nervous, but we just ignored it and it stayed. Pretty cool! I figure it must be a little used to people and feel safe since it is a Buddhist Monastery. No chance of it getting killed or hurt there.

I think grandma would approve.

that looks like a beautiful place to spend eternity. was that a cantaloupe with straws stuck in it, in front of the lotus plaques?

You’re close! Not really. It was a decaying orange with burned out incense sticks stuck in it. I think it was way passed due to be thrown out. It had a thick layer of green stuff growing on it. Yummy!
