Smoke + Fire Alarm = Long Lunch

Somehow, somebody today just before lunch did something in the building to produce smoke. Maybe something caught fire, maybe something happened with all the construction, but the fire department was called and we ran outside to wait things out. When we first went out we didn’t realize what was going on. In the past the fire department has come to the building for fire alarms tests, so seeing a red truck out front was no big deal.

After standing in the blazing heat and glaring sun for about 15 minutes (and probably starting a good sunburn) somebody came out to tell us to come back in an hour. The fire department had to get all the smoke out of the building. Hmmm. 11:50am and an hour to kill. No access to my lunch bag. I get a chance to eat lunch pretty much anywhere I want within reason. :-D

I ended up spending my lunch at Panera. Nice and lazy. Cup of soup, a sandwich and Dr. Pepper. Nothing better. It’s too bad I had to come back in. The morning was a complete waste seeing as I spent most of it watching some guy install Crystal Report and the latest patches on my machine. Nice and boring. Now if only something could come up for this afternoon we could make a nice round, completely worthless day at work.
