Vegetation Removal - Part 3

I know I’m feeling sore today. I’m sure Sue is aching too. Off and one for the past week we’ve been cleaning up the yard. It’s overgrown for one and overrun by vines for another. Some of the vines are 4 inches thick! I need to use a chainsaw or a good hand saw to get through them. Not to mention all the dead branches in the trees.
We spent most of yesterday evening attacking the dead branches on the tree in the front yard. I cut one down with a chain saw, but found that my hand saw worked faster and was a little less dangerous when up on a ladder. I cut a few more down and found that the entire (huge) branch was dead too. It is about 10″ thick at the base, where I needed to cut. Since the chain on the saw was dull we actually decided to cut this one by hand.
It took about 20 minutes to get through it. I was half way through the branch and had to take a break. Sue gave it a shot while I rested. That didn’t look too good. My neighbor stopped by to mess with me. Sue on the ladder cutting the tree and me on the ground resting.
I took over for Sue and about 5 minutes later we were yelling and celebrating that we cut through the damn thing. We were just lucky no cars were coming by at the time. Sue was on traffic duty. The branch hit the road (as expected), missed the electric lines (as predicted) and shattered into many small pieces.
It took time to clean up, but it was worth the effort. I would have been pissed if that thing fell down without my knowing. Now I just need to put a new chain on the saw and cut this thing up. Not to mention cleaning up and cutting down some small trees in the back yard. We took down plenty of vines and large, overgrown branches, but there is still more that needs to go.
We’re reclaiming our backyard!
