The Stench

Oh, I finally found the one thing I don’t like about my new commute. As the warm weather approaches and travelling with the windows open becomes possible I’m beginning to realize that I may start to drive at least part of my trip with the windows closed. Having lived in the area for over two years I never realized how close to the Albany landfill I was. Well, it seems that on some days the stench that that landfill emits is horrendous.

It’s very close to the mall and to all the major shopping areas. Odd, but true. It’s also damn close to the roads I take on a daily basis. Most days are okay, but there are far more days than I like where the stench is nauseating. I guess I’m particularly sensitive to nasty smells, but you can’t miss it. I don’t know how to describe it. I’ve smelled the landfill in Hartford more times than I can count and it isn’t as nasty as this.

The only thing that is good is that our house is miles from the landfill and I’ve never smelled it past a certain point on my trip. Once our realtor told us about the landfill when we were speaking with her we made it very clear that we didn’t want to be anywhere near the thing. Thankfully, we’re not. There were plenty houses for sale in that area, but we didn’t even think about seeing any. I just couldn’t see living 30+ years near that thing.

This does make me wonder where my garbage goes.
