Pixel Fingerprints

I happened upon an article that mentioned that it is now possible to link images/photos to the digital camera that was used to take the picture. Apparently digital cameras leave a unique “pixel” fingerprint on the digital image.

The technology could potentially be used to find a child pornographer or find somebody that has taken pictures of sensitive or confidential documents. Bruce Shneier cautions that the fingerprints are most likely easy to forge.

I wonder how long it’ll be before a CSI episode shows up exploiting this new forensic technique.
