I don’t like bees

If you know me then you know I’m not a fan of bees. By bees, I mean yellow jackets, wasps, hornets, etc. Their all bees to me.
I can handle the usual killing of the lone bee that gets in the house. I actually did this last Saturday night. A bee made it into my parent’s house and decided to spend the night hanging on the curtain in the guest room (my room). With a magazine (hammer) and book (anvil) it was quickly taken care of.
When we got home on Sunday we spent some time on the porch doing stuff. It was just too nice to be inside. While sitting there Sue mentioned that there are a lot of those big bees. I said they are bumble-bees and they usually don’t cause much trouble. Well, after that comment I watched them for a bit. Then I noticed that one crawled into a hole in the porch I didn’t know was there. The damn things have a nest in the porch.
I thought it over and decided the only thing I could do at the moment was keep them in/out of the next. So, I got some masking tape and covered the holes. We went inside by this point. I watched out the window and boy did they get pissed. At one point there was probably 5 of them flying around really fast. After that they just disappeared. I figured that they found a way in or left to find a place to sleep.
The next morning things were quiet. Holes are untouched. I asked Sue to pick up some bee spray at Lowe’s. When I came home I found them outside flying around like normal. I took a close look and found that they had eaten their way out of the holes. There was two at it at that moment. You could hear them chewing the tape that was covering the hole. Damn.
When Sue came home I commenced war on the bees. I shot a few in the air and a few squirts in the holes. It got quiet. I came back later to find more flying around. I shot them too, but I was curious if it was having the right effect since they flew away. I followed one into the back yard and found it on the ground buzzing. I gave it a mercy shot of the spray. I’m happy now. It apparently doesn’t take much spray to kill these things.
After a few more shots in the holes it looks like they are all done for now. I don’t see any buzzing around anymore. I’ll keep my eyes open, but I think they are done for. I’ll have to pick up some stuff to seal the holes, but not until I’m sure they are empty of bees. Damn I hate bees.

I remember when we were little, you still had curly hair and I still wore dresses, we were picking dandelions in Grandma’s front lawn (’cause they were the prettiest flower ever, as well as the only ones we could pick & not get in trouble for). You got stung by a bee and you were in Grandpa’s old tan-colored couduroy-like recliner, crying. Gram got you a wash cloth doused in cold water to hold over it until it stopped burning. It must have been Easter or something…. The older I get the foggier the details are.
