John Deere

After many debates and discussions on whether we need, when we need, or what kind of lawn mower we need, we decided to get a John Deere riding tractor last night. Lawn mowing season is just about here and we both realize that push mowing our lawn would be a very time consuming job. The yard is deceivingly large.

We ended up getting a baby lawn tractor. Not the smallest, but not the biggest by any means. We were going to get the Husqvarna for various reasons, but they didn’t have any in stock except one that was damaged and the other was the display model. Ordering one would take 2-3 weeks. So, we went with a John Deere, which is what we went there to look at originally.

It took 2-3 hours to actually buy and get the thing home. Quite an ordeal. We had to fill out copious amounts of paperwork. Credit check, warranty, truck rental. It took less time to close on the house.

Yeah, we ended up renting a truck too. The damn tractor is big and very heavy. I just didn’t see the two of us (or four if we had Mike and Amy’s help) lifting the thing out of my truck. Not to mention it wouldn’t even fit in my truck. We rented the truck they had at Lowes, which included ramps. It made the job quite a bit easier. Delivery would have been three times more money and would take 2 weeks. WTF!

It would have taken less time if the two dopes that were loading the tractor onto the truck actually knew what they were doing. It took them a while to find the ramps, figure out how to attach them to the truck and then push the mower onto it. Then the one guy ran inside to do some work and left the other to pack everything up. Well, come to find out the guy that ran inside took the pin to close the gate. The other guy spent a long time looking on the ground, in the rain for the pin before going inside to track down the other guy. I went and took the pin from him myself. I couldn’t watch this cherade anymore.

We came back after brining the thing home, had to stand in line yet again to return the key. Then pick up a gas can and some lawn bags. They screwed up and didn’t give me my 10% off. That was after the cashier spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to do it and then didn’t actually give us the discount. We ended up at customer service where we got the 10%, but found out they screwed up my name on the credit card too. WTF!!!

By now I wanted to strangle somebody. We took our stuff and left. It was already well past 9, raining and we wanted to go home, eat dinner and get to bed. The only good thing to come of last night was that we got the mower and it came with a trailer. It was a hassle overall. Just your average Lowes experience.

–Updated–
I should mention that the department manager knew his stuff and was very helpful. He was also able to approve out 10% off a gas can, which we forgot to get earlier. The other guy that “helped” us was friendly enough, but not too bright. The other guy was just plain clueless.

Like Father, Like Son…………..look out……….after reading your blog about purchasing your lawn mower, sounded like a very short version of Dad and I getting our John Deere Tractor at HD. A long version and lots of agrivation I’ll let Dad tell the story, but we spent the entire nite at HD getting one and I had to take our truck home to feed Missy and go back to HD and Dad was still in the same spot as when I left him…..trying to get credit for a year finacing w/ zero interest and the chains for the tires was the worst part of our nite. Dad can write an entire entry on his blog about our tractor experience. WTF is right….Can’t wait till Dad reads your blog on your experience :-) to see what he has to say… So I guess you won’t be borrowing our push mower???? Does your tractor have a beer holder??? Enjoy mowing!!!! Love, Mom :-)

  10. Dad Says:

    AHHHH got the point!!!
But in this case,, outta love,, I feel that a little safety info maybe in order. I feel that a 5 point harness, gloves and eye protection just may be needed. In this type of activity one can come loose from said activity at great velocity landing upon a very dense material causing the forsaid enjoyment to come to a very abrubt and unenjoyable conclusion. So therefore more safety equipment may be in order for the proper and fullfilling conclusion to said activity. This has been a public service announcement. Any persons feeling they were related too in this announcement,,,, need serious help.
