Seized

It is sad to say, but another store bit the dust this week. It wasn’t as calm as usual though. The store was seized by NYS for failure to pay taxes. The entire place is plastered with papers saying that people caught in the store will be charged with trespassing. All of the equipment is chained so that it cannot be taken out.

Although, I haven’t seen it in person I’m sure it is a sad sight. It really doesn’t make the environment any nicer. Closing is one thing, but being seized is another. I hope they get things over with quickly though.

I’m not surprised that it happened. There are rumors that they were not paying their rent. It wasn’t that long ago that a couple of police officers escorted somebody to the store so that they could forcefully take money for back rent. They were even given the offer to pay the back rent and stay or get out. I guess they chose their own fate. Don’t pay rent, don’t pay taxes and then have your business seized.

It leaves me wondering how this affects their personal finances. Will NYS garnish their wages for back taxes? Will NYS take their house?
