Cell - Stephen King

I decided to go with “Cell” by Stephen King after my last book. I’m not dissappointed, just not thrilled. I guess I was just expecting more out of a King novel.

The overall plot of the book, which you learn very early on so I don’t think this counts as a plot spoiler, is that everybody in the world that owns a cell phone prety much loses their mind at the same time. Anybody that doesn’t go crazy, but wants to tell somebody tries to make a call on their cell phone and subsequently go crazy themselves.

The rest of the book pretty much goes through the motions of what happens to the main characters as time goes on in a world where there are “phone-crazies” running around. Some interesting things come out of the story, but nothing shocking. The ending is “okay”. I would have liked to know more about what happens, but it just sorta stops.

At the end of the book is a number of handwritten pages of part of his next book that is expected out at the end of October 2006. It basically deals with a woman who is married to a well known writer who dies. She has to pick up the pieces of her life, while being hounded by publishers for her husbands unfinished works. It sounds like King is writing about himself and his wife. I think he did something similar before with “Misery“.

Not that I expect to have a lot of free time now with all the painting I have to do, but when I get a few moments like during my lunch break I think I’ll start on “Saint Camber“. I’m anxious to see how well Kurtz writes her other books. This is the second book in the Legends trilogy.
