Why Bother Blogging?

I was surfing the net last night, checking out the handful of blogs that I read on a daily basis and some how I ended up on a site that has articles such as how to write a better weblog. Tips and suggestions on how to write posts that somebody would actually want to read. “Amuse your readers.” “Write more professionally.” It got me thinking about the purpose of this site, the topics I talk about and my quality of writing.
To be honest I never started this site to make money (e.g. ads), write witty stories or in any shape or form entertain anybody. That doesn’t mean I don’t try to make my posts interesting. I try, but I’m not always eloquent. I’m not always entertaining. I’m not always in a good mood and that usually effects my writing.
The primary purpose of this blog is to keep my family up to speed on what we are doing and what is going on in our lives. It is also a place I can post pictures I take, especially pictures of our nephew James. It is also the place I get a chance to bitch about things. Sue thinks this is all I do. 
Lastly it is place where I get to write about things that I find interesting. The things I write about might not be interesting to you, but they were interesting enough to me to take the time to write about them.
Enough bitching for now.

After reading your blog I sat for a moment trying to figure out how to respond. I don’t feel that I can offer any quality help but I will try. I am sure you are aware that anytime you read someones blogs “you are not critical of their writings”. Therefore you should not worry about what anyone thinks of what and who you write about. Personaly I feel that a blog is sort of a diary that is actually out in the open for all to see. I read all of your postings I can,and many technical ones I don’t understand typically the code ones. But I am sure someone does.
I find your blog to be interesing and amusing in the regards that I am family and was most likely involved in someway (usually pictures). As for “eloquent” who really gives a rats patootie about that. It is my opinion that anyone who writes a letter, a blog, a card or a poem do so with the knowledge that it comes from them, by them, about them and for them. It should also be understood that people reading any of the above should feel privilaged to be allowed to read them. I’ve told you when you were young, don’t be what people want you to be, be what you heart wants you to be, and the masses be damned. Love ya. Dad

Then we are both in agreement.
What spurred me to write this post were the articles I looked over on how to make a successful weblog. I never saw blogs as having to be “successful”. I see them mostly like journals or diaries. A place to put your thoughts. Of course they can be used to post news or informational articles, but I don’t think that is the best use for blogs.
If you have news to post, create a media oriented website. If you have informational articles to post, design your site accordingly. Blogs posts slowly go by the wayside and disappear from the main screen as new posts are written. I think it is very rare for a reader to go back through the archives to and read old posts. I do it sometimes to get a little history on a recent post or just for the heck of it.
What I’m getting at is that this site is exactly like I envision any blog site. A place to write about my stuff and things important to me. If I feel the need or desire to write articles I want to have a long life I’ll post them outside of the blog or create a different site.
Please don’t try to read too much into this post. I was only bitching. I was also level setting everybody so that anybody that reads posts on this site is fully aware of the site’s purpose. This way there are no disappointments or confusion. If somebody doesn’t like what I have to say they can stop reading. It won’t break my heart.

Yep same page as you. wasn’t reading to much into it just concerned (dads perogitive). Like you said , wanna be funny be funny wanna bitch then bitch, as long as it comes from inside you and causes no harm………….. F.U.C.M………….
