Ads on Blogs

Why do people feel they need to have advertisements on their personal blog sites? I really don’t understand it. Personal blogs are generally very cheap to maintain. I don’t pay a whole lot for my hosting service and the software is open-source, a.k.a. free. What incentive is there to add a Google Ads section to my site? Why force your visitors to view a screen cluttered with ads.
I guess I should mention that ads don’t bother me as much lately as usual. I installed Firefox 1.5 and adblock on my laptop and my machine at work. I’m able to easily block most advertisements. I’m using Sue’s computer tonight since she took my laptop with her. And this thing doesn’t have the extension installed. So, I’m being overloaded with ads.
If you’re tired of seeing ads on sites you like to visit get Firefox and install the adblock extension. Then learn how to use it to block ads. It is easy to block images, iframes, scripts and flash ads. The only thing you can’t do is block ads that are actual HTML in a page. Those you are stuck with, but luckily there are not many of those out there. I feel like I’m selling the damn thing, but it really is worth the effort.
