Dropping Like Flies

It is unfortunate, but the stores in the South Hills have been dropping off like flies lately. It sucks because we have family that have their business there, and their business is driven by the mall traffic. Less traffic means less business for them. It is depressing to see the mall go like this. The Dutchess Mall did it too at one point.
I think I mentioned before that Media Play is going out of business. They were quick about it too. It took about a month, but they are closing their doors this Sunday. They didn’t sell all their stuff though. Everything but used DVDs and books were on sale. Those were not. They must have found a buyer for all of them.
Not that long ago the furniture store closed. Now, the owner of Mega Gems and Nutz decided to merge his stores and got rid of Mega Gems. Dino Dig is packing up their stuff and moving to the Myrtle Beach, SC area. The owner of Craftees up and left in the middle of the night. There are also rumors of other places getting ready to leave.
It sucks to watch this. I think most of the problems they have their is due to management of the mall itself. It is tough being right next to the newer, more active Galleria, but being second is not all that bad. If the mall owners would actually get some stores into the mall then the place would pick up business. The archors are now Burlington and Kmart. They could easily have had Bed, Bath and Beyond in their. Or Target. Or our suggestion of Christmas Tree Shops.
Some malls were able to turn things around though. The Newburgh mall made a comeback not that long ago. They renovated the entire building and business is steady. I havne’t been there in a while, but I don’t think they have any trouble getting people in there. There is somebody that wants to build another mall across the main street from the Newburgh mall though. Nobody that lives in the area seems to like the idea. I stay away myself. The traffic is terrible in that area.
Only time will show how things will go.
