Smoke Alarm

Sue had quite an interesting day today. While doing her work she noticed that she lost connection to all the databases. She asked her boss what was going on and she didn’t know. After checking around they found out that the smoke alarm just went off in the server room, which triggers all machines to be turned off and a fire retardant to be released! Luckily it wasn’t a fire that caused the fire alarm to go off.

Sue spent the day trying to find stuff to do. Being a dba it is tough to do any work if all of your servers are down. By the end of the day she had a headache from thinking too hard. As I write this she is resting on the couch.

They did find the cause of the whole situation though. Supposedly a coolant line cracked releasing freon into the server room. The freon was enough to trigger the fire alarm. Now, they have to wait for somebody to refill their fire system before they can start to bring any servers back online. She’ll probably have another slow day unless they all come online okay. Since the room housed many of their important machines including their network servers things are going to have to be turned on in sequence and tested.
