New Gmail Features

It’s almost creepy how useful Gmail is getting. Google just put out a new feature in Gmail where email messages that contain a tracking number (such as a USPS tracking number) have a link on the right side bar that allows you to open the appropriate website and view the tracking information. Email messages that contain an address have a link in the right side bar that opens the address in Google Maps. Creepy, but handy. I’m not so keen on the “clips” bar at the top of the screen. I turned that off immediately.
I wonder what features Yahoo! is planning on putting in their new mail system. I heard they are completely rewriting it and that it looks and works great, but I haven’t been able to get into the beta program yet. I’m still waiting. Oh well. I’m not likely to switch from Gmail back to Yahoo! (I maintain an account in both), but it is nice to see what is being offerred.
