Feifei Update

It’s been a while since I’ve given any time to give an update on Feifei. Well, as of Tuesday he has started “walking”. I noticed the start of this last week when he started standing up without holding onto anything. It almost always looks like he’ll fall, but he stays up for a little bit now. Sometimes he’ll stand and clap his hands. I have some picture and video of this to post. It is quite cute to watch. Well, on Tuesday Amy told us he took his first three steps. I hope she remembers to break out the video camera.
Huafei has been udgraded to a room with older children at daycare. The room he was in is for infants that don’t walk yet. They move to other rooms when there is an opening and a need to move a child to make room for someone else. The room he is in has a few more kids, but it also has at least 2 people watching them. I think legally they can watch 4 infants per daycare worker.
And according to the daycare he had his first “fight”, which wasnt’ really a fight. Huafei had a ball that another kid wanted too. The other kid came over and touched the ball, and Feifei started crying. Not much of a fight in my book, but it is interesting to see how his reactions have changed over time. A couple months ago he wouldn’t have cared. Now, it is very important to him.
He is also starting to pay closer attention to people around him. He does not like strangers holding him. Even giving the hint that you will hand him over to somebody he doesn’t know and he’ll start crying. This goes for grand parents too. He only gets to see Amy’s parents on weekends and sometimes he is apprehensive about going into their arms. After a number of hours he’s okay with it. He only sees Mike’s parents every 2-4 weeks so he is really unhappy if they want to hold him.
And for some odd ball reason he seems to like me a lot. I don’t do anything special, but I do talk with him and play with him at times. It’s not uncommon to have him reach for me when I walk by him. Especially, when somebody else is holding him. He likes me to hold him. Maybe it has to do with the things I do with him. He does get to ride my shoulders often enough and I do hop around with him in my arms or on my shoulders. I’m also taller than everybody else by 6-13 inches.
He gets a bird’s eye view of everything.
It can be a little disturbing though. Last Friday he wanted nothing to do with grandma and grandpa. Sue and Jason could hold him. When Amy ask me to come near her he damn near jumped out of her arms and into mine. I held him for a bit and tried to give him back. He didn’t want anybody else to hold him. Even Amy was given the cold shoulder.
ops: So, I walked around the mall with him and showed him some stuff. He really likes to see new things. And there is a “head” shop in the mall so they always have plenty of interesting things to look at and smell.
Sue’s passday is today and with the snow storm today she went down last night. Usually, she brings Feifei with her on Friday morning, but this time she brought him for the night. It was his first night away from mommy. I’m sure everything went alright, but if I know Amy she’s probably called Sue at least twice already and it isn’t even 8am.
Amy and I will go down together some time today.
