Stranger in a Strange Land – Robert A. Heinlein

It feels like it has been a long time since I actually finished reading a book. It’s only been two weeks since I started “Stranger in a Strange Land“. I finally finished it yesterday. Part of the problem is that I’m in the process of reading “Ajax in Action“, but the other part is that I wasn’t really “into” this book.

Stranger in a Strange Land” is the first Sci-Fi book I’ve really read. It was given to me by a coworker. After reading it I’m still not diggin’ Sci-Fi. No great loss though. I have plenty of Fantasy to work through.

This book is about a human that was born as the bastard son of two astronauts that had an affair while marooned on Mars. Another ship was sent to Mars and brought this man back to earth. The story goes on to describe what happens here and his education on being a human on earth. By the end he is a “preacher” trying to teach people here how to tap into powers (telepathy, etc), but ends up being killed by fanatical Christians. A very odd book indeed. The hardest part about reading this one is that it was written in the 60′s and it has the mindset of somebody living in the 60′s with regards to technology and social interaction. It’s hard for me read without shaking my head.

My lovely and very sweet cousin saw my post about finishing my last book in the Sword of Truth series and brought her copy of “Chainfire” for me to read. I’m anxious to start the book. I’ll probably fly through it like all the others. I’ll hold off on starting it though. I really want to get into “Ajax in Action“. Thanks c’us!!
