Running Joke

The South Hills Mall is becoming a running joke now. The place was bought by a new company and ever since these people took over nothing has gone right. I’m speechless as to how many things have gone wrong and how poorly the management office has reacted to each. My cousins all heard the story about what happened last weekend, but the problems started weeks ago and are continuing to get worse.

So far this is what we know:

A few weeks ago somebody started a fire behind K-Mart. Somebody lit the cardboard on fire and the mall had to be evacuated. Nothing was damaged, but business sufferred. I guess this kind of thing can’t always be avoided.

A couple weeks ago the mall experienced a power outage. I don’t know the cause, but they evacuated the mall again and had it closed down the entire time that they worked on the power. Okay, I can see this happening too.

November 20th the power in the mall goes out again!! Somehow the power got partially lost and it took 2 or 3 hours for it to be restored. The entire place lost business because nobody wanted to walk around the partially lit mall and not all of the electronic equipment was working. Two power outages within a week and a half!!

Black Friday a water line breaks. I was the first to notice that the water was very weak. We talked to three of our neighbors and they all had the same problem. We talked with the mall and they told us to call a plumber. They said that it was our problem not theirs. Huh??? Come to find out they sent somebody outside and they found out that water was pooring onto Route 9 making a hell of a mess. Now, they realize they have a problem. The mall is closed at 7:30pm on BLACK FRIDAY. How do you think that helped business?

Not only did the mall get closed early on Friday, the management office didn’t have anybody start working on the leak until Saturday morning! They claimed that there is a law that says they can’t dig at night. Yeah right! Dad works at the water department and said that night is when most breaks occur and they work on them immediately.

Sunday morning at 11am water is back on. After running the water for about 45 minutes it is clear enough to use. We work all day no problem. We talked to Jay last night and he told us that the water was only on Sunday because they implemented a “temporary” solution; they tapped into the fire hydrant to feed the mall with water. Sounds odd, but hydrants are feed from the same water line that drinking water uses. We are pissed that they didn’t implement this on Saturday. If it was possible why did they close the mall on the Saturday after black Friday? Besides the mall losing lots of money, all the small shops depend on Saturdays. It is the biggest day of the week. Not only that, the Price Chopper had to close. They must have lost a ton of money.

Come to find out the mall turned off the water again Monday at 12 noon. They evacuated the mall and everybody lost yet another night of money. How many times can they do this and expect people to stay silent?? I still don’t know if they fixed the water line yet. They may not even open today.

To all salt into the wounds I found out Sunday that there will be no Christmas decorations, no Christmas music and no Santa Claus. The new mall management company didn’t budget any money for Christmas. What a joke. This is a very, very sad way to run a business.
