Linux my old friend

I finally brought my old machine up to the our apartment. It has been sitting unused in Sue’s parent’s house for almost 11 months. Without an internet connection it was pretty much useless. We broke down and brought it up here and started using it as a Linux server so Sue can play around with Oracle 10g r2 on Linux. She has to learn how to use UNIX/Linux and installing/configuring Oracle. I personally enjoy using Linux so I’m happy too. With our XP machine here I can play around with the other one as much as I want.

We picked up a NIC and a small router (on sale!) and a two port KVM so we could hook everything up. I installed Fedora Core 2 and everything works pretty good out of the box. The only thing that doesn’t work is the tool that lets you install additional software and the tool that updates the OS. This shouldn’t be a problem since it is just a test box and I only plan on installing software I download.

I just have to get back into using Linux. It has a few quirks that you need to learn before you do too much. I’m shaking off the rust. I haven’t using Linux so much in over a year. I enjoy using it again though.
